Jaskol scores back-to-back wins in ASA Speed Truck Series

Rookie Matt Jaskol showed that his early success at ASA Truck racing was no fluke as he put together consecutive wins at Mesa-Marin and the Las Vegas Bullring to take over the series championship lead.

At Mesa-Marin, two weeks ago, Matt started from the pole and led all 75 laps on the half-mile track to score the victory in his 03 United Auto Nissan.

"Although I led all the way, it wasn't as easy as it looked", commented Matt, "I had to deal with seven re-starts with a bunch of hungry drivers right on my tailgate. I tried to use the caution laps as an opportunity to cool down my tires and set myself up to get the jump".

Just last weekend, at the 3/8 of a mile Las Vegas Bullring, the 20 year-old ex-karting champion repeated the performance, leading all the way to score his third victory of the season. Once again it was his uncanny ability to make jackrabbit re-starts that gave him the edge.

"It's the truck", said Jaskol, "The United Nissan Team has given me such a good machine, and they really deserve the credit for me upping my game."

Matt's immediate success at truck racing has caused him to skip the last two races of the Star Mazda road racing series, despite standing second in the championship chase.

"Richie Hearn's team has given me a great car in the Star Mazda Series and I really wish I could make a run for the championship there, but unfortunately there are some scheduling conflicts. I will always love road racing, and I will never abandon it completely, but I have been given a very special opportunity by this United Auto Nissan Team to have a contract to race the full season and possibly longer, and every driver knows how important this is, and how rare it is in a development series anywhere to have a fully paid, competitive ride. I want to become a professional race car driver, hired and paid to win races. From my perspective this takes me one step closer to it, while I learn a lot about racing in short tracks."

With three wins and a second place in the first six races of the season, Matt leads the ASA Speed Truck Challenge and looks forward to his next ASA Truck race at Mesa-Marin Raceway, in Bakersfield, CA in two weeks.
