Team Top Kart USA came away with three more wins and a championship at the final round of the Stars of Karting East Championship in Shawano, WI. This weekend saw the return of Chris Wehrheim to ICA and Conor Daly’s first appearance with the team in Stars competition.
Spec Racer (TaG) continued to be dominated by Team Top Kart USA drivers. The only two Top Karts in the field finished 1-2 in both finals with Conor Daly taking the Saturday win and the Spec Racer East Championship. Adam Johnson won final two, which was his second win of the season. This is the seventh win of the season in eight races for the team. Conor increased his points lead, which puts him in strong position to win the National Championship.
Chris Wehrheim came in to fill Johnson’s seat and did so in a big way. The driver from Norcross, GA had a bit of bad luck on Saturday and was forced to start 19th for the Final. Chris was one of the fastest karts on the track and moved his way up to 5th as the checkered flew. Sunday’s events would proved to be just as difficult, but provide a much different result. Chris charged from 19th on the grid once again to finish 6th and set the fastest lap in the Prefinal. This put him in great position for the final. Taking the lead around lap five, Chris never looked back and cruised to a 3.206 second victory. This was the first win for the team in ICA with Top Kart/Comer package.
Brendan Phinny and Pierce Baldus represented Top Kart in the JICA category and with great success. Pierce continues to improve every race and was a solid top ten competitor all weekend, but luck was not on his side. Brendan has found his stride in the class and came away with two third place finishes aboard his Swedetech powered “Flash.” This is a great result for the Kartel Motorsports crew.
Top Kart has always been one of the leading Cadet chassis in the world and they proved this once again with their three drivers Jacob Will, Tyler Thomas, and Andrew Murray. On Saturday all three drivers finished in the top five with Will in second, Thomas third, and Murray in fifth. Sunday started off excellent with Will taking pole position, but in the Final would finish fifth after running in third for the majority of the race. Thomas was wrecked early on and charged back up to a solid eight followed by Murray in twelfth.
Matt Jaskol led the team once again in ICC with taking pole position and the track record on Saturday. Unfortunately a mechanical problem forced him to loose power and he had to settle for fourth. Sunday, Matt would lead the Final early on and go on to finish third. Sean Noonan scored two more top fifteen finishes for the team.
Next up for Team Top Kart USA is the Rock Island Grand Prix. The team looks to continue it’s win streak in TaG with Adam Johnson and Kyle Wiegand and Wiegand also looks to score another King of the Streets crown. To learn more about Top Kart visit www.grandproducts.com.
